Early Life and Career Beginnings

Sapkowski studied economics at the University of Łódź and initially worked as a sales representative for a foreign trade company. His literary journey began relatively late, with his first published work appearing in the mid-1980s.

The Creation of The Witcher

Sapkowski’s writing career took off when he entered a short story competition held by the Polish science fiction and fantasy magazine Fantastyka in 1986. His submission, The Witcher (Wiedźmin), introduced readers to Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter for hire in a world filled with magic, danger, and political intrigue. The story's popularity led to a series of books that have been translated into numerous languages and gained a massive international following.
